and barack obama said that was the top priority but since november 6th, all we have talked about is debt reduction. that wasn't an issue. the words fiscal cliff were never uttered at any point in any one of the three presidential debates and that became the entire conversation for six weeks after the election and now more debt reduction. this is why we have elections to settle these issues. the issue to focus on is jobs. the president had a jobs plan on the table for two years now, the american jobs act. not going to get it passed in full but look at some of the elements of that. let's start to focus on that issue because that's the issue the american people care about. >> i want to play an excerpt of the president's first inauguration. let's play a little bit of what he said. >> today, i say to you that the challenges we face are real. they are serious and they are many. they will not be met easily or in a short span of time. but know this, america. they will be met. >> zachary, the president said that they will be met. the same challenges and many cases, some improvements we have seen

about the anti-obesity bush and michelle obama talked about her daughter's bmi being too high. the problem is, the president at the beginning had a goal of keeping kids out of politics, that's a laudable goal and worthy goal. i think he's right about that. the problem is the president when his back was up against the wall issue after issue used references to his other children and as so many other politicians did, use children period and he did that today. the n.r.a. point is about it's a double standard. the obama daughters get protection, of course they get protection, that's not revealing any substantive information, but why shouldn't other families get the same type of protection for their children, not secret service people, but gun protection or self-defense. i think that's the point they were trying to make. >> any objection for the presidents and republicans and democrats have been used for photo opes and the children, and i've seen the president stand up with soldiers, injured soldiers. >> the children of injured soldiers i know bush has probably done that as well, bu

talk with nbc without correspondent kristen welker. kristen spent last year on the obama campaign trail and talks about the moment she knew the president was headed to victory. i began by talking to her about the challenges of living on the road for months. >> it was a challenge, but it was so thrilling. i'd always wanted to cover a campaign at the national level. so i woke up and i was excited every day. it was just a thrill to literally watch history unfold and to be a part of that. the biggest challenge was that it was exhausting, and there was a physical toll, which i wasn't prepared for. i wasn't prepared for getting sick on the campaign trail. it's not easy to just call up your doctor and say, hey, i'm not feeling well. you have to literally do a lot of improvisation and, remember, you're eating sort of what's put in front of you. when you're on the campaign trail, 90% of the food is a carbohydrate. so that's a big challenge. especially someone like myself, who likes to be healthful and exercise a lot. exercising goes out the window. you try to sneak in sit-ups before you go to be
